Great Blog Example

Standard

Mia Mania is an example of a great blog. http://bloggingwithmia04.edublogs.org/

  • Visually, this blog highlights colors I love, purple with soft blue.
  • The posts are conversational and friendly. Reading them feels comfortable and inviting.
  • Interesting widgets include the human calendar and flags showing the country of each visitor to the blog. The human calendar is particularly appealing and I may add it to my blog.

About Me Directions

Standard

An “About Me” post is essential to every blog. Write a post containing at least 125 words with the information listed below. Be as specific as needed so readers feel like they know you while being as vague as needed so the readers won’t show up at your doorstep.

  • First name
  • Generally where you live (California, Bay Area, small town in Northern California, etc)
  • School information: middle school your classes, sports, clubs, activities
  • Hobbies outside of school. (Best told in stories. Getting your first soccer ball at age 3 is very different than starting soccer last year.)
  • Personality (Include this in its own paragraph or weave it into your writing in general)

Millions of Thumbprints

Room 27 at Karori Normal School has a blog titled Millions of Thumbprints. The posts on their class blog show that this is a place full of activity, questions, and they enjoy humor in their education.

  • The teachers chat on Twitter. Based on one of those chats, they came up with an online event called #KIDspeaknz
  • The class has quite a sense of humor as evidenced by the Celebration of Learning movie.
  • Widgets on the sidebar link to extended interests of the class including their YouTube channel, a bookshelf of recommended books, and a date widget that uses clever pictures.
  • A post on their book club shows how students learn about what makes a good tweet and put that information to use in composing their own tweets. This is the exact piece of information I happened to be looking for myself this week!
  • Their school learns about and integrates the Maori language into their studies and activities.
